At age 8, Caroline is really coming into her own. She has always been a self-assured child, but this past year marked a big shift in her asserting her independence and confidence. Caroline is very good about understanding what is expected of her at home and school and generally does a good job of self-governing. She still gets very frustrated at times with her younger sisters, with Julia being the most frequent the source of irritation.
Caroline thrived in 2nd grade, making huge leaps in reading while continuing to be an excellent student in math and art. She has a very special sense of style, which makes Mommy and Daddy chuckle. She always knows what kind of "look" she wants to convey and does it proudly. Caroline continues to show strength as a swimmer. She racked up countless personal bests during the swim team season and claims freestyle and butterfly as her favorite strokes. Caroline also started tennis and piano lessons this year.
For her 8th birthday, Caroline had her very first sleepover party with three friends from school. It was a great success!

Julia, Age 6
Julia continues to be a kind child with a vibrant personality. She is head strong and passionate and still struggles from time to time controlling her emotions. On the bright side, this passion lends itself to positive things as well. Julia's exuberance for play, adventure, and activities like swimming and bike riding knows no bounds.
At 6 years old, Julia is riding a two wheeled bicycle, swimming on the pre-team at CCV, learning to read, and can be found happily engaging in imaginary play schemes with Caroline and Margaret. She is at her happiest when playing with her sisters. Julia also loves creating and building. Cardboard boxes quickly become cars, trains, etc. at the hands of Julia, and she will play with them for very long periods of time.
Julia is an excellent helper around the house and is sensitive to the feelings and needs of others. When she is in charge of a game or activity, her leadership skills shine strong and proud. Julia enjoys one on one time with me and Paul, but is especially happy to be alone with Daddy.
For her 6th birthday, Julia wanted to have her own party, separate from Margaret. She opted to have a few friends to the pool for swimming and cake.

Margaret, Age 6
Over the past year, Margaret continued to assert herself as her own person. At school, she was considered a well-liked leader who was happy to play with any classmate but also very content to do her own thing. She spent quite a bit of time in JK working on unique pieces of art which impressed her teachers greatly. Margaret is very strong willed and does not bend easily. She reminds her parents of her Mom :)
At 6, Margaret enjoys playing with her sisters, riding her scooter, and reading books. She is known for her unusual bedtime routine of surrounding herself by 100,000, 001 stuffed animals and blankets and then draping a blanket over her head before she settles in to go to sleep. Margaret continues to be our pickiest eater with a fervent dislike for vegetables. Snacks and dessert are her favorite foods, with Mac and Cheese coming in close at 3rd place.
Margaret spent a lot of time in "kitty kat" mode over the last year. Walking around with her "paws" up and making cat-like noises was a very common occurrence both at school and at home. Margaret also managed to convince quite a few friends to join her in this "feline frenzy." We are happy to report that the kitty paw action has largely abated and only makes an appearance when Margaret is feeling very nervous.
For her 6th birthday, Margaret was also in favor of having her own birthday party. She chose a party at Chuck E. Cheese with all her JK classmates!
